The Wonder Girls Profile

The Wonder Girls (Korean: 원더걸스) is a South Korean girl group. Their producer and manager is singer-songwriter Park Jin-Young and the Wonder Girls are signed to his talent agency, JYP Entertainment. Each of the five original members were selected through auditions. Debuting in early 2007, they became popular in the fall of that year with the song "Tell Me." They have scored four consecutive #1 hit singles: "Tell Me", "So Hot", "Nobody" and "2 Different Tears". In 2008, they won two Daesangs ("Artist of the Year" Awards).


The group began their entry into the American market in 2009, with the English version of their hit single "Nobody". They are co-managed in the United States by JYP Entertainment and Jonas Group.

  • Min Sunye (Hangul: 민선예 Hanja: 閔先藝) was born on August 12, 1989. She is commonly known as "Sunye", but also as "Sun" for her American name. She is the group's leader and the main vocalist. Her blood type is A. Her height is 162 cm. She entered into the JYP academy after being discovered in 2001 during Park Jin Young's 99% Challenge project. She has trained in JYPE for 5.5 years before debuting as the leader of the Wonder Girls. She also had collaborations with various artists including 8eight, Park Jin-young (JYP), and Mighty Mouth. She was also featured in the music video for Lee Byul's Forever. She had done OST tracks for two dramas: "일월지가" ("Sun and Moon") for Conspiracy in the Court (Han Sung Byul Gok) and "Maybe" for the drama Dream High. She also composed the "Man Won" song for her time on reality show Manwonae Haengbok in mid-2007.
  • Ahn Sohee (Hangul: 안소희 Hanja: 安昭熙) was born on June 27, 1992. She is commonly known as "Sohee". She is the lead dancer and vocalist. Her blood type is AB. Her height is 166 cm. Sohee is often called “mandu [만두]” (dumpling) because the shape of her face resembles a dumpling. She trained in JYPE for about 3 years before the Wonder Girls' debut. She made her acting debut as a supporting character in the movie I Like It Hot ("뜨거운 것이 좋아"). She was featured as the lead actress in 8Eight's music video "Without a Heart". Also, made a cameo in MBC's sitcom That Person Is Coming.
  • Park Yeeun (Hangul: 박예은 Hanja: 朴譽恩) was born on May 26, 1989. She is commonly known as "Yeeun", but also as "Yenny" as her American name. She is the lead vocalist of the group. Her blood type is AB. Her height is 165 cm. She joined the Wonder Girls as the 5th member through an audition not long before their debut. She also has collaborations with various artists like 8eight, H-Eugene, and labelmate San E. She performed an OST track "正" ("Jeong") with former labelmate Jay Park for the drama Conspiracy in the Court (Han Sung Byul Gok). She also has composed and wrote the lyrics for "Saying I Love You" and "For Wonderful".
  • Kim Yubin (Hangul: 김유빈 Hanja: 金瑜斌) was born on October 4, 1988. She is commonly known as "Yubin" or "Yoobin". She is the main rapper and vocalist of the group. She is also the eldest of the members. Her blood type is O. Her height is 163 cm. She was a later addition to the Wonder Girls who added due to the leave of Hyuna, who is now a member of 4minute. She officially debuted on September 7, 2007. She was also featured MVs, in labelmate boy group 2PM's debut music video, "10 Jeom Manjeome 10 Jeom" (10점 만점에 10점, lit. 10 Points Out of 10 Points), also former member G.NA was featured as well and in Shinhwa's Once In A Life Time. In addition to that, she has feature various singles as a rapper from different artists, like Shinhwa's Andy Lee, Lee Min Woo, Kim Bum Soo, and Chun G. She has appeared in MBC's sitcom, 'That Person Is Coming'. Prior to debut, Yubin was originally set to debut as a member of girl group Five Girls (오소녀) under Good Entertainment, along with G.NA, After School’s UEE, Secret’s Hyosung and former T-ara member and actress Yang Jiwon. However, the group disbanded shortly before their scheduled debut in 2007 due to Good Entertainment's financial troubles and the members all left for separate Korean entertainment companies.
  • Woo Hyelim (Hangul: 우혜림 Hanja: 禹惠林) was born on September 1, 1992. She is commonly known as "Hyerim" or "Hyelim", but also as "Lim" for her American stage name mainly for promotions. Christina Woo is her American name. She is the vocalist and sub-rapper. Her height is 166 cm. She was the newest addition to the group as of 2010 after the hiatus/leave of Sunmi. She was born in Hong Kong and of South Korean descent. She has been training at the JYP Academy for three years and she is fluent in four languages: English, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese. She was originally a member of labelmate group miss A, formerly called "Sisters (시스터즈)", the Chinese version of the Wonder Girls.

Former members

  • Hyuna (현아) (b. June 6, 1992 (age 19) as Kim Hyun Ah (김현아) left Wonder Girls in late July 2007 due to health issues involving chronic gastroenteritis and fainting spells. She was later signed to Cube Entertainment and is currently a member of girl group 4minute.
  • Sunmi (선미) (b. May 2, 1992 (age 19) as Lee Seon Mi (이선미), also known as "Mimi", postponed her career to continue her academic career. Because JYP has not announced an official departure, Sun Mi is considered by many to still be a member of the group. JYP also stated Sun Mi is welcome to continue her musical career with the group at anytime.
